Trying in restore a laptop sounds simple NOT!!!!

I have a dell inspirion 1150 laptop. I am trying to restore the os with the dell cd. i set the bios to cd boot first and it is still not doing it. it did it sometime but not all the times. I need help please. I have researched everywhere and nothing. please give me some help.

sounds like if it reads it some times your cd could be faulty or need cleaning, or your cd is damaged, have you tryed to get hold of another backup cd?

anyway.
you don't need to boot from cd.
can you get to dos? (the command prompt?)
if not, do this:
get a win98 boot disk from here:
www.bootdisk.com
start the pc with that disk
go to dos.
put the windows cd in cd drive
navigate to d:\i386 folder (if the cd drive is d
type winnt32.exe and enter
this will start install
