i cant seem to figure out this problem..i have been good with computers for a while and its bugging me.

ok i turn my laptop on get the normal screens but for some reason there are streaks of lines going through it. after the xp logo the moniter seems to turn off completly.

safe mode works fine, i tried upgrading drivers, changing the resolution and nothing seems to work.

im going to upload a video i took on my cell phone that might help

any help is appreciated

If you are having Internet Connection problems also, then stop here and say so.

Else;

Then, in Add/Remove Programs, uninstall the Nvidia drivers - everything!

Reboot. You'll only get VGA drivers so your screen will look like Bill Gates' first comp.

Then, if your IE is working, go to Nvidia and download the latest XP Nvidia drivers for your video chip/card. Make an effort to download to a Desktop folder YOU create called Nvidia or whatever.

Install them.

Reboot.

i did do that but when i reinstall the nvidia driver the problem comes back. There is no problem when there is no driver installed

'There is no problem when there is no driver installed'

You gotta work with me here! What the heck does that mean?

No lines? Full normal video?

I meant after i uninstall the driver i can get back to the desktop and function normally without being in safe mode. but the lines still appear when the laptop turns on.

When i install the Nvidia driver the problems come back and i can not even get past the windows logo.

If you are getting lines when the laptop first turns on and none of the drivers are being loaded then you have a video device failure. You'll probably need to replace the motherboard, or in the unlikely event that you spent enough money to get a laptop with a replaceable video device you need to replace the video device.

So, you have a definite graphics problem outside of Nvidia drivers. Now, since you asked for help but didn't post anything specific about your computer, I must stop my general diagnosis and await your filling in your system specs in your profile.

Otherwise, I think you need to consider a trip to the shop to have them check your LCD cable connectors internally or your LCD inverter.

Probably will have to anyway.

you have no idea how much i appreciate the help. I let me sister borrow it for a week and this is what happens.

also, why would it run perfect without the nvidia drivers? wouldn't that rule out the problems with the cable connectors?

The reason I think it's a video device problem is because of the lines when the computer first turns on. Some of the basic features of the video device are working. These basic features allow you to see your motherboard POST and allow you to go into your BIOS. All video cards have this feature. When you load the Microsoft version of your device driver (Safe Mode) your video device seems to work because the driver does not use to any of the advanced features on the device. When the Nvidia device driver is loaded the video device fails because the driver is trying to access many of the more advanced features which have simply been broken somehow and are no longer available.

I dont need you staying awake to try and help me :p i do appreciate it very much everything you have said so far
