Ubisoft has revealed a new trailer and behind the scenes video for the upcoming latest installment in the Far Cry series – Far Cry Primal. While we don’t find out a whole lot of new information about the game, the videos do give us a bit more insight into Primal’s world. And we also get to see the hero drink from a skull filled with blood and eyeballs.

The game will be set in the stone age and features a lone hunter named Takkar as the main protagonist. Players arrive in an area called Oros, which has been torn apart by the three warring tribes as they attempt to conquer the land.

"Takkar's people, the Wenja tribe, is at risk. They are being attacked by both the cannibals of the Udam tribe, led by the cruel warrior Ull, and the fire worshipers of the Izila tribe, led by the high priestess Batari,” Ubisoft said in a press statement.

"Immersed in the untamed world of Oros , a land full of dangers, Takkar will have to unite and protect the Wenja people from their dangerous enemies, the Udam and Izila."

Ubisoft has also released a new ‘making of’ video (below) that looks at some of the characters and languages that will feature in the game.

The development team has focused on giving Primal an authentic feel, going so far as to work with the University of Kentucky to recreate a version of the proto-indo-European language that was spoken during the game's setting 12,000 years ago.

As Primal is set in stone age times, there will be none of the modern gadgets seen in the previous Far Cry titles – so no blowing up mammoths with a rocket launcher. Instead, it will be possible to tame certain wildlife which will then follow the player.

Each of these animals possesses various abilities that can be used to survive. Tame the bear, for example, and you’ll essentially have a high-damage weapon at your disposal, and anyone who prefers stealth attacks can attempt to tame a leopard. Even the owl is used as a replacement for the camera; it's able to highlight (and attack) enemies and scout for points of interest.

It’s going to be interesting to see the public’s reaction to Far Cry Primal when it’s released. Taking the modern weapons away and setting the game in the stone age is a brave move, but Primal keeps many of the elements that made the previous games so enjoyable, such as the open world and unscripted moments. Whether players find the changes go too far, or perhaps not far enough, remains to be seen.

Far Cry Primal is scheduled to launch on February 23 for PS4 and Xbox One, with the PC edition arriving on March 1.

All things considered, I think it is a refreshing step off the beaten path. Can't wait to see gameplay trailers (more for the ambiance and open world design), heck I might even buy it, who knows~
