Unfortunately it has been mixed-bag (at least for me) with the Applebreds. I had a total of 9 parts, 6 1.6ghz and 3 1.8ghz. Two of the 1.8ghz were unlockable via the pin-mod, and none of the 1.6ghz were unlockable via that method.
However, I have found that ALL of the 1.6ghz applebreds were able to be placed at 166mhz FSB, giving them a clock speed of 2Ghz, and they were stable. Not too bad for a chip that cost me only $16 (special deal at Frys' Electronics) and outperformed a celeron of the same speed.
They run quite cool too, but as for unlocking it seems to be really hit or miss, probably depends on where they were manufactured.
