I see alot of data recovery questions in this forum and wanted to recomend a CD thats I've been using for the last several months for my computer maintence tasks. http://www.ubcd4win.com/index.htm It's a package that will make a bootable CD/DVD for window XP and loads alot of performance/ recovery apps, not to mention the basic email/browsing etc: http://www.ubcd4win.com/contents.htm It was a tiny tricky for me to make the CD. It required that you downloaded the UBCD files and run the program which asked you to insert your official xp CD. Finally after alot of processing/file reading UBCD makes an ISO(image) file. Then you burn it on a CD and there you go. A portable XP boot cd with all the trouble shooting apps you probably will need. This CD saved my **** from needing to potentially make a complete reinstall after I seriously messed-up the master-boot-record. Plus the way the CD works is it takes some of your RAM and maps it as a drive(it appears to work like that). Anyway it definetly doesn't run any of your C: drive files, making it ideal for defragmenting your OS installation.
