Ultimate gaming system

Oh yeah, Wild Bill's been around for many decades. The Atari 600, 800, and 1200 machines are 30+ years old. I guess it's fair to say that while Mr. Gates is a rousing success, he's neither an overnight sensation, or a flash in the pan.

do u recon he is working on some type of imunity to death? if i was the richest man ever i sure would

Easy peasy for me...

2x Dell Ultra sharp 30" LCDs, 2x 512GB SSDs, 4x 3TB HDDs, 2x Hd5970's, a rather mahoosive PSU, Lian Li ATi Crossfire windowed super tower case, Gigabyte 4x CF motherboard, Phenom 1090T, custom water setup (with everything cooled), 16GB DDR3 RAM, plus a few other things I probably have forgotten.

I'm planning just the same system when I get my inherritance, though it'll probably turn out much less than that, as I'd like a car too. :haha:

At 1/5th the price, the X6 actually wins about a third of the benches.

Not to be too pick hk - but I can't see a single area in that benchmark you linked where the X6 won. Are you sure you're paying attention to where lower is faster? I'd hate for people to mistakenly think the X6 is faster than a 980X at anything.

Oh... and for my dream machine:
EVGA Classified SR-2
2 x Intel Xeon X5680
4 x nVidia GTX 580 (Quad SLI of course)
3 x Dell U3011 30" (can't have a bezel on the crosshairs of my FPS games)
2 x OCZ RevoDrive X2 960GB PCI-Express x4 MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (worried if I can fit these with Quad SLI in the rig - might have to pass on it)
48GB G.SKILL Ripjaws + Turbulence Series (12 x 4GB) DDR3 1900 (PC3 15200)
SILVERSTONE ST1500 1500W ATX SLI Ready 80 PLUS SILVER PSU (Maybe 2 of these)
Auzen X-Fi Forte 7.1
Better than sufficient cooling
Undecided on Case
Marantz SR8002 receiver (I'll avoid crazy amplification for now)
1 pair B&W 800 Diamond
1 pair B&W 804 Diamond
1 pair B&W 805 Diamond
1 B&W HTM2 Diamond
1 B&W DB1

I would build this, if I had the cash:
  • ASUS KGPE-D16 Socket G34 mobo
  • 2x AMD Opteron 6174 Magny-Cours CPUs
  • 3x 16GB (4x4GB) Crucial DDR3 1333 RDIMM kits
  • 1x eVGA GTX 580
  • 1x NVIDIA Quadro 6000
  • 1x ASUS Xonar DX
  • 2x Samsung 550EXN 55" LED-backlit LCD monitors
  • 1x LG Infinia 72LEX9 72" LED TV
  • 4x OCZ RevoDrive X2 960GB SSDs
  • 2x Thermaltake CLS0017 CPU coolers
  • Swiftech H20-220 Apex Ultra kit
  • HP 700W Server PSU + 850W OCZ Z Series Gold PSU

Marantz SR8002 receiver (I'll avoid crazy amplification for now)
1 pair B&W 800 Diamond
1 pair B&W 804 Diamond
1 pair B&W 805 Diamond
1 B&W HTM2 Diamond
1 B&W DB1
In a blind act of patriotism, I think I'd go for sound system based on the JBL, "K-2"s....http://news.cnet.com/8301-13645_3-10313992-47.html

Horn loaded midrange, accept no substitutes. These should place the listeners perception of spatial location somewhere in the lead singer's mouth, even from ten paces away. Or, "you ARE there", with JBL...!

I'm sure those may sound nice, but I've never heard them. I've listened to the B&W 800s and the DB1 and I fell in love immediately. I'd have to give them a thorough listening to before I could judge those JBLs. If I was gonna go bananas I'd just choose a pair of Wilson Audio Alexandria Series 2s - but I haven't heard those either.
