Hi there,

I'm posting this on behalf of a friend in need!

Basically over the weekend his PC started doing wierd things that I couldn't sort out. I came to the assumption that it's possible overheating, but decided to re-install windows just incase it was a problem with that.

All went well, got it activated nice and simple, then came the problem when trying to install updates via the microsoft update page.
His copy of Windows won't validate, and the reason given is 'an unknown error has occurred'. I am somewhat stumped by this, not to mention a touch annoyed since no updates can be done. Luckily I have a copy of SP2 on disk so I'll use that when I next go around to see if that fixes the problem.

Oh yeah, the copy of Windows is completely legit!

If anyone has any clue what could be causing this please let me know.

Thanks for any assistance.

this has obviously been deemed as a ****** copy. if it is legit contact the vendor of the operating system. go back to the person/people/shop that installed it, and ask them to do it again!

It's strange that it's been deemed dodgy. It was all fine until we re-installed it. There was never any problems downloading the updates.

Oh well, guess he'll have to contact PC World to try to get it sorted.
