Hi there, hoping I can find some help.
It's been a few days now since I started noticing problems with my computer, and I still have yet to find a solution. It started a few days ago when I tried to run Firefox and it hung. I restarted my computer and it hung again. I've had several attempts and it hangs every time. I get to the homepage sometimes but it hangs there as well. Right now I'm on Google Chrome which is working fine. I figured it was just Firefox, so I left it alone and just went along with my business.
That is, until I tried doing other things. I haven't tried doing much other than fix my computer since the problems started, but I have noticed my computer has been very slow. Sometimes windows explorer even crashes, but a lot of the time it's just incredibly slow. I tried playing a couple of games, and every time I attempt this they both frequently freeze for 20 seconds or more. It's not just the game that's freezing, though. The entire computer freezes and I can't move the mouse or anything (though music continues to play). After I noticed it in my games, it also started happening, though less frequently, outside of the games. I've updated my NVIDIA Drivers and the problem persists.
Of course I've considered a virus, so I first scanned with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. That found nothing. I tried Spybot Search & Destroy which found some things and fixed them, none of which were the source of the cause. Finally I tried SUPERAntispyware which also found a couple things and fixed them, but didn't fix my computer. I'd be glad to run any again and get logs if you need them.
As a final attempt I was going to try a system restore, but it seems all the restore points have disappeared. I have read that they get removed after 90 days, but I should still have some relatively recent ones. A couple new ones have been created and work, so I don't know what happened there.
I've uninstalled and re-installed Mozilla Firefox, which didn't fix it so at the moment it is not installed on my computer. I'm installing the latest windows updates right now, but none of them look like they're related to my problems.
I've never had any of these problems before, and I'm completely stumped as to what the problem could be. I only hope that it's fixable and that I won't have to do something as drastic as wipe everything off my PC. Any help would be great, thank you.
