I didn't download it or install it, I already have MS Office 07 Standard.

Then every time I started the computer it automatically tried to install
itself, blocking mefrom doing anything else.

Was finally able to get rid of it (I hope) by uninstalling.

Haven't restarted since tosee if it's really gone.

Anyone else have this problem?
Where does it come from, is it possible to block it
from doing this again?

Thanks

System for this machine is Vista.

Branded computer? Then yeh, it happens all the time. I bought a netbook for my dad (lenovo) and it had it. What is even worse is if you uninstall it, then install a real version of Office 2003 and forget that you left behind some shared thing. Then you get a warning about something everytime you start. I forget what it was, but it wasn't something super simple, I remember deleting from add remove, but something was labeled 2003, so I kept it, knowing that I was going to INSTALL 2003. But taking shortcuts like that apparently isn't allowed.

This is actually a friend's computer at work - personal laptop.
After the first post, we tried to restart and sure enough, there it was again!

There must be a way to get rid of this thing - if I understand correctly, he'd had
this laptop for some time but this problem just recently surfaced.

There must be an installer or .exe hidden somewhere that wants to install this
every time his machine starts up now.

What to look for, where to look? I am totally unfamiliar with Vista.

It's gotten to the point his laptop is pretty near unuseable because of this,
sure appreciate any help!

I directed him to do the 8 steps (after he registers) but I don't know if it's
some type of malware or just Windoze being Windoze.

Thanks much!!

Disable automatic Windows Updates!

That won't remove it, but it should prevent future occurrences.

Noe, here are the steps from Microsoft to remove Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007- see if they work for you:
Verify that you cannot uninstall the 2007 Microsoft Office system by using the Add or Remove Programs feature or Programs and Features feature: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971179/

Then go down to For Windows Vista section. MS has set this up sequentially- not making it clear or easy, so I didn't do a copy and paste- there are links!

Follow their yellow brick road! Please let us know if this work- for the next person who asks!
