  1. Hi all,
First post! Ok here goes I'll try and make this short. I recently got gently used Dell with 1 gig mem and a celly d. Runs great until I try and multi task. Slows down, no crashes but should be better. Should I try and if possible upgrade processor? If so what do I need to check (mobo, chipset etc) Other then more ram(wich I will indeed increase) is there anything else I can consider to speed this thing up a bit?

    Just to clarify..
I am using xp pro.any search on anything slows this to a crawl Also I have conflicting reports, can this machine take 2 or 4 gigs of ram? What do I check to find out?
Thanks for the help by the way
by celly i meant celeron d
    sorry for the confusion

    What's a celly d?
    Update the BIOS.
That computer can utilize a lot of memory. That, combined with an update of all drivers from

and upgrading to Windows XP Professional will just about do it.
Upgrading the processor will not provide noticeable improvement unless you also upgrade the video graphics card as long as you also upgrade the power supply.

A Celeron D. It's a very common processor in budget/entry-level desktops and low cost workstations.

Personally, I would suggest simply reinstalling, using the restore discs (which should have been provided to you if you purchased it), so that you do not have any previous owner's changes hanging over your head.
