Hello, I'm new. I have been build and repair Computers for a bit, And This one sounds like a motherboard issue to me, but I'm not sure.
Here's the senerio:
Friends computer acting weird, friend says " I run win ME, give me XP."
I say sure, check to see about cpu mhz and all. All good, gateway 933 128mb ram, it'll run slow but work.
Use MS XP boot floppies for a clean install- problem-
disk 2 says " can't load nt something and says Error code 7, stops install."
I format hard drive, start install, same thing. I downgrade and format to win98
win98 boots consistent everytime, woo hoo. Put in XP CD to upgrade, starts the load in process of disks ( like XP floppies) I press the enter to install XP
and get a Auto reboot, nothing else, no XP, no go.
Yet, I can boot to 98
its a gateway
Model: ESSENTIAL 933C
Serial Number: 0022496182
Not making any sense.
I always use the XP floppies and full CD and start from scratch. And when I scandisk the harddrive to check it. . . no bad sectors or viruses.
