Upgrading my 1.3 amd processor

I am wanting to upgrade my amd 1.3 processor but keep my motherboard. However I am afaid my motherboard isn't able to handle a new amd processor? How can I find out what type of mother board I have and what works with it? Also my amd processor when I first got it over heated all the time so a cpu store sold me a turbo fan and it keeps it cool and all but boy is it annoying to listen to are there quality fans that are quiter that will work with my amd processor?

There certainly are quiet coolers available.

Can't get them much cheaper and as quiet as that.
