Upgrading the operating system

i have an old computer with windows 98 on it, and i was wanting to know. can i use a window xp reinstallation cd to upgrade it? And if theres anyone on here who can help me. THANKS!

Here is a great place to start.
You can use the XP cd as long as you only have it on one PC.

Clarification: You need a Windows XP installation AND a valid activation key for XP (i.e. if you only have the CD and don't have an upgrade or installation key, the CD will let you upgrade or install, but then the software won;t let you do much till you activate (you have 30 days)
