usb device woes

Using a D-link wireless networking tool, when I insert the usb device, the installation wizard does not appear onscreen. How can I find it?

I am assuming that you have tried re-booting the PC right? There are a few POS Dell's at work that won't recognize a Sandisk Cruzer Mini 256mb drive unless I reboot them.
