I have a USB 320 Gig External WD drive and i need to password protect it because it has alot of confidential information. Does anyone know of a way to do this? Such as a program? I tried using Universal Shield 4.0 but everytime I remove the drive it stops protecting it.

Q1? do you need to move the device to other computers and if you do,
A: does the cirtical data need to be access there?
B: or do you just want to keep the data private?
Q2? how many files need to be protected or would you prefer a Volume lock?

I only need to protect a portion of the files. But a volume lock wouldnt be bad either. Yes i move the HD around sometimes to acess the data.

hum; MS filesystem encryption is LOGIN specific, which is why I went to
FileAssurity OpenPGP (google for it). You create a PASS PHRASE
and then use it to decrypt (login once, decrypt many).

It will encrypt specific files, but the software would need to be installed
on every system to which you move the HD. the installer could be on the
drive, but it's just more admin (and licenses) to acquire.

I have managed to move the keystore to my thumb drive and to restore it
for future use; just haven't tried it on another system.
