Hi,

i tried to connect my usb pendrive to the system(Windows 2000

prof) .but it is not detected.then i went to the device manger and choose

scan for hardware changes.then it appears but not able to access any

file. Then i restarted the system. The Chkdsk run's for the USB PenDrive

After logging in checked it is working fine.

Two hour's later i again connected it . it is not detecting in the computer.

i insert the USB pendrive in different USB port's also. then also no response.

If i go to device manager and choose scan for hardware changes .then also

no response. Please help me to sort out the problem.

it's not uncommon for a USB pendrive to be accidentally zapped by static electricity and destroyed. in fact, its quite common. try another pendrive, or try yours on another computer. if yours works on another machine, your computer is the problem. if it doesn't work on another computer either (one with win2k or XP) then you can reasonably conclude that said drive has indeed fallen victim to static discharge.

A lot of people don't bother to put the little plastic caps on their pen/flash drives when sticking it in their shirt or pants pocket. Clothes are notorius for buiilding up static by rubbing around. One zap and you're through.

You can try the flash drive recovery procedures in the FAQs to see if you can restore functionality. If not, it's toast.
