Hi, I Just Bought A Usb To Infrared Device For My Laptop.

The Problem I Have Is That My Laptops Modem And Cd Rom Drivers Were Erased. I Have No Way Of Installing Drivers, Except The Infrared Port. I Installed The Bundled Software With The "ir/usb" Into My Desktop. Everything Seems To Be Fine Except 1 Thing.

My Laptop Can Only Send Data To My Desktop, But My Desktop Cannot Send Data To My Laptop. In The Program Genelink It Doesnt Pick Read The Laptop Which Is The Program That Came With The Device... Under Remote Desktop It Does Not Bring Up The Laptop. However In The Tray It Brings The Popup Click Here To Send Data To
''user:laptop"

Note:
The Laptop Is An Old Toshiba Pro Satellite 440cdt Running Windows98 Se. My Desktop Is Running Windows Xp Home. When I Try Sending Data To My Laptop It Gives Me The Error File Was Not Sent Because An Error Occured While Wireless Link Was Sending File Data To The Other Machine. The Data Is Invalid

Please Help. I Will Be On Aim If Not On The Boards

Thx

With infrared the sender has to be in direct line-of-sight of the receiver, so within a limited distance.
Why on earth did you waste money on an infrared device, where you could get a cheap ethernet-connection?

PS: are you German, with every word starting with a CAPITAL?

I do not have an ethernet card installed on it. I have tried many things but the laptop requires drivers which I have no way of installing. No 3.5 floppy, CDROM driver is deleted. etc. The only thing that does work is the IR.

i dont know how that capitalize thing happened. lol

You can buy 2.5" to 3.5" harddisk-adapters. Take the laptop-HD out, stick it as a slave in another PC, and copy all the drivers etc. on it that you need. Then put it back in.
Try and get a PCMCIIA networking/modem combination card (cheap on Ebay?)

for the pcmcia card would I need to install drivers? because like I said there is no way of me being able to install drivers. Another thing is I couldnt open up the laptop. I opened about half of it and couldnt get the rest open. Its a very old Toshiba Satellite Pro 440CDT. lol

So I dunno. I guess I'll have somebody else open the laptop for me and I can put it in a 2.5 enclosure kit with Usb and then put it back in.
