I was offered a good deal on a friends old computer, as he is getting enough money to build an entirely new system from the ground up, and offered it to me at what seems like a good price.

gforce 4 ti 4200
amd athlon xp 2100
thermax volcanoe heatsink
17 inch black crt
mouse, keyboard, nic
Ram, not sure, either 128 or 512 (DDR from Crucial)
OS is going to be Linux (several distros, and yes, I am using linux now)

Price: $550

I plan on going over to his house and making sure everything works, but I do trust him. Still, it does seem a rather low price.

I just need a seriously good argument to get 400 bucks from parents! I'm going to push my hoped-for future in comp programming/whatever.

Just argue that it won't properly display your porn......that should do something.
