Using CuteFTP

hi all
just wondering how to use and setup cuteFTP. i want to be bale to use between me and a mate, so he can connect to me and leech stuff off me, and vice-versa.
does anyone know who to do this?
help would be apprecated

In addition to an FTP client you need an FTP server. The FTP server is the software that allows someone to connect and download/upload using an FTP client.

Serv-U is the program I used to use. Globalscape probably has one as well.

Router crashes when i try to connect to Serv-u

everytime i try to connect ( through my own machine) to my serv-u ftp server, i get the follwing msg : Failed to establish data socket.
then the router crashes and i cant get internet acces, anyone have any ideas.?

Did you forward the ports needed for data transfer? Port 21 is for the control connection, any data is sent/received through another connection (that includes both directory listings and files themselves).

You have to set up port forwarding to the client if you use active FTP and to the server if you use passive FTP.

Many routers have issues with loopback connections. You may never be able to properly connect to your own public IP address if you have a crappy router.
