Verizon on Monday revealed that its Wear24 smartwatch would go on sale in just 24 days. Unfortunately, the wearable won’t come cheap… even with a two-year service agreement.
The Verizon Wear24 smartwatch features a 1.39-inch AMOLED display sporting a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels (290 PPI) that’s driven by Snapdragon’s Wear 2100 processor and 768MB of RAM. There’s also 4GB of local storage, a sizable 450mAh battery with wireless charging and NFC, LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity.
The watch carries an IP67 rating meaning it can withstand being submerged in up to 3.3 feet of water for as long as 30 minutes.
The Verizon Wear24 goes on sale May 11 priced at $349.99 in your choice of stainless steel, gunmetal black and rose gold. The price drops down to $299.99 with new two-year activation.
That’s pretty darn expensive, especially for a smartwatch with Verizon branding. I personally stand with Huawei CEO Eric Xu Zhijun in the belief that smartwatches aren’t necessary when everything we need is already on our phones. Like him, I’m not exactly optimistic about where the smartwatch market is heading.
Verizon says users can add the Android Wear 2.0 wearable to their existing Verizon Plan for $5 per month (plus taxes and other fees).
