Very weird Internet Explorer issue with XP-SP2

Hi

I had a machine running win2k very slowly, so I formatted and installed XP Pro SP2...

Installation went fine.

The previous win2k installation was connected to a router via Lan.
I transferred the IP settings to the new installation, along with everything else.

The problem is I can't browse using internet explorer; anything I load up, even if it's the router configuration program (192.168.1.1), starts loading about 500 bytes and then just stops loading, staying in that state.

Another machine hooked up to the router is working fine. I can also get decent pings to just about anywhere from the command prompt, and I even managed to play 'internet hearts' (from those silly games that come with XP), so I was thinking the problem is simply internet explorer... but it's a totally clean install, from a verifiably working version.

Tried playing/disabling the firewall, popup blockers, cookie permissions, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.
