Video card problem

i have a pent 4 whith a elitegroup p4s5a/dx+ motherboard
when i fit a ati hd2400pro graphics card and install the current drivers when i reboot windows xp will start to load and then freeze uninstall in safe mode it loads up ok
when i update manually it shows card working ok and monitor make come up ok and seems to work and says its ok when i reboot again later it freezes at same point untill i have uninstalled drivers i have tried later and older drivers to no avail any ideas

Is the computers power supply big enough to run the new video card? Have you connected the power supply to it if it needs additional external power?

it is a 300w output
