Virus or Computer Problem

Need help. I have a DEll gx280 that I am having problems with. You can be using the computer and then the mouse will freeze and the only way you can shut it down is to pull the plug or hold the button in for 4 seconds and then I get a amber light and the cpu fan starts speeding up. The speed keeps increasing until I pull the plug. Is this a possible virus or someother problem??

It can be a virus or spyware or a hardware defect or a non-performing device driver
Start first with the 8-Step process for removal of infestations found elsewhere on this forum.
Take a look at the Device Manager in Start->Control Panel->System->hardware->Device Manager to assure there are no yellow or red flags.
Then go to the www.Dell.com support site for your service tag, and be sure all drivers there are updated or have been updated.
It is possible that a hardware components has reached the end of its useful product life, and requires adjustment or replacement.
Test the mouse, by temporarily exchanging with another.
