Viruses are destroying my computer and I need help

I put in the Windows XP cd that came with my comptuer, and have got through to the area where I think I need to be but now it is asking me to type in which Windows Installation would I like to log onto? If I hit enter it just restarts in normal mode. So what do I do here?

Do you mean it restarted and is now asking you which installation you want to boot to? I' concerned you may have installed Windows twice, on separate partitions instead of repairing your installation. Did you have this choice before you tried the Windows repair?

here is exactly what my computer says on the screen right now.

Microsoft Windows XP(TM) Recovery Console.
The Recovery Console provides system repair and recovery functionality.
Type EXIT to quit the Recovery Console and restart the computer.

1: C:\WINDOWS

Which windows installation would you like to log onto
(to cancel, press enter)?

OK, sorry, you are in Recovery Console. You select '1'. if it asks for an administrator password, just press <enter> You should then get the DOS prompt. The enter 'chkdsk /r' (no quotes)

I just did that and hit enter and it says that the password is not valid and to retype the password. Now I am lost

Both Bobbye and myself have tried to explain what you need to do

You have already confirmed the account is password protected, this has then been answered already above

Please use the path I gave for the Error Check. Check BOTH boxes as mentioned, OK, Reboot into Safe Mode and let it run.

Bobbye, I tried that and it does not work either. I do not know what to do anymore. I am so upset with this computer.

I had not planned to continue here. However, because the original help was diverted in different directions, if you would consider taking this from your logs on Post#4 and my first reply on Post #9, along with the additional information provided by kimsland, maybe we can still handle the problem.

Unfortunately when you are sent in several different directions when trying to solve a problem, it can make for more confusion, not less.

Bobbye, I am giong to follow yours and Kimslands advice. Do you want me to open AVG and go into the virus vault and delete everything that is in there? To answer your question that you asked about me being a student at Olin. No I am not a student there. I did go to college at Brown college and graduated in 2006. That is how I got this laptop. It was part of my program and I purchased it. So you want me to delete everything in my AVG Virus Vault correct?

Bobbye, I am giong to follow yours and Kimslands advice.

Thank-you, it may be best to

Regarding clearing out the Virus vault, yes please do this
Actually it would be even better to fully un-install this program, and use the better free AntiVirus Avira
Note: I mentioned this way back in Post#8

Ok. Thank you very much kimsland. I have cleaned out the Virus Vault and completely removed it from my computer. I am downloading the Avira right now and will do a scan with everything again and then will post my logs once again for you to look at sometime this evening.

Sounds like you're on the right track! Once in the virus vault, the malware isn't affecting you system but it is better removed. I think you may be more pleased with Avira. It's a good program. I actually had AVG v7.5 but didn't want the combo in v8 and there have been update problems with AVG.

Updated Logs

Bobbye and Kimsland - I have emptied out my Virus Vault in AVG and have completely deleted that program from my computer. I have downloaded Avira. I have updated all the programs in the 8-step process with the newest updates and have ran scans with all of them. I have attached the logs below. Please tell me anything that you can from the logs. Thank you.

-------------

Please re-run Malwarebytes (again!) and follow the above steps in full
Seeming you need to re-run Malwarebytes, I'd suggest you update it first

Strange! The original Mbam log showed all malware entries removed. I suspect our "confused" poster thought that had been handled already. Perhaps some of the "side" work that was recommended exposed the system again. No big deal- just reopen, and be sure to check the appropriate places for removal.
