vista on second hard drive

you should be able to reboot and just install it on the other hard drive. One thing to make sure of is that you mark you vista hard drive as active partition in the windows manage area. vista puts its system files on the active partition, not necessarily the one you are installing it on. this would mean that you would end up putting vista's system files on the XP partition.
 
Its not that bad, except that vista takes over the XP boot manager and installs a new one instead.

Simply change your bios to boot from CDrom first, then pop in the dvd and install from dos. Select your second Hard drive as the drive you wish to install it on and your good.
