Whenever the VSS starts my computer starts acting up. This started two days ago. EventViewer seems to point to VSS as the cause, and the error was the device, Device\Harddisk0\DR0 has a bad block.

I ran chkdsk, and thought everything was fine. But today when VSS started my computer froze up. And anytime I tried to start systemrestore, the computer would freeze up. So I disabled the VSS service, hoping it will fix it. Not sure if this was a good idea or not.

Also: Virtual Disk Service keeps starting and stopping. It'll start, then stop about 5 minutes later, and restart about 20~ minutes after that.

I have windows vista 64x home premium edition. My computer is 5 years old and is an HP Pavillion.

5 years old? If this is a desktop computer open the case and make sure all the fans are running normally and that they are clean and fee of dust
