  1. I believe I did this right. I did everything the Trojan preliminary removal page said to do. Here are the logs from the scanning process. I am no longer getting alert messages saying I have a virus and my opening page is no longer the "Internet Security" page. My system still seems a little on the slow side. Thanks for any help you can provide!!

    Hello and welcome to Techspot.

If you decide to take rik`s advice and get rid of Symantec/Norton, you will need to install new antivirus and firewall software. See HERE for links to some free antivirus/firewall programmes.

You might want to copy and paste these instructions into a notepad file. Then you can have the file open in safe mode, so you can follow the instructions easier.

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how here.>

Boot into safe mode, under your normal user name(NOT THE ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT). See how here.>

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how here.>

Open your task manager, by holding down the ctrl and alt keys and pressing the delete key.

Click on the processes tab and end process for(if there).

    Close task manager.

Run HJT with no other programmes open(except notepad). Click the scan button. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4734044c-7427-43d8-adbe-df942e52bef2} - C:\Program Files\QualityCodec\isaddon.dll (file missing)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Cleanup] "C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\200611100128_mcappins.exe" /v=3 /cleanup

    O16 - DPF: Spades 2 by pogo -

Click on the fix checked button.

    Close HJT.

Locate and delete the following bold files and/or directories(if there).

    C:\Program Files\QualityCodec<Delete the entire folder.

Reboot into normal mode, turn system restore back on and rehide your protected OS files.

Run the Ccleaner programme as per the instructions in this thread HERE.

Post a fresh HJT log and let us know how your system is running.

    Regards Howard
