Want to use wired headphones and charge your iPhone 7 simultaneously? You'll need an extra dongle

you clearly didn't understand anything.
so tell me, will you carry extra cables and dongles with you all the time? don't make me laugh, after 1 or 2 times you'll just throw them somewhere and never use them again because of how inconvenient it is to carry such things with you. the dongle is not a small cable when you have to put it in your pocket.
and you clearly don't listen to music. "virtually indistinguishable"? I'm sorry but I sincerely suggest you go test your years at a hospital, you might have a problem with your ears. detecting such problems early on can help you a lot.

and can you for the love of god stop saying that I should use the ones included in the box. those are a pair of crappy 2$ headphones. I'm sorry by saying this but... just by mentioning them you look stupid. you lack common sense dude.

who the hell cares about people who don't listen to music, this is not what we're talking about here right? the removal of the 3.5mm doesn't affect them. just because you don't use it doesn't mean **** to us.
Clearly it's you who lacks understanding... The 3.5mm adapter attaches to your headphones and it basically just adds 2 extra inches to your existing headphone cable... No need to unplug it ever - you shouldn't have too many issues here...

And the included earbuds may be free, but they're actually pretty decent - you don't like them? See the first sentence then :)

And as for Bluetooth quality... What versions of Bluetooth have you been listening too? 2.0?!? Current (and future) standards of Bluetooth audio are actually excellent - try it some time :)

And the point of this is that the MAJORITY of people won't miss the 3.5mm port... Apple sells millions of devices every year...who cares about people who don't have a fine ear for music? Apple does!!! Because they make up 99.9% of the population!!

I suggest you go find an 8-track player and start buying up used 8-tracks for your musical pleasure...

You stopped using logic when you said: "No need to unplug it ever"
It's longer than 2 inches and you will remove it from your phone very often. This is the very definition of inconvenience.

Bluetooth still has super shitty audio especially on Iphone. This is mostly because the Iphone has it's own proprietary AAC Bluetooth codec which only Apple products support (no aptx codec support or anything similar for good audio on other headphones). You are forgetting that bluetooth compresses audio heavily.

And do you seriously think that it's only 1% of people who listen to music on a good pair of headphones? Apple built the Iphone around music and it's one of the biggest reason why people buy it. Many have their entire music library on itunes. Just because you dislike listening to music doesn't mean others do too.

PS: the apple free headphones are worse than regular 7$ headphones from china (tested by me personally). and most people complain about them not staying in your ears when walking (forget doing anything more than that). you can also read other reviews online - all them say they suck.

See... this is what I call a failure to communicate... I'm not sure if you're willfully misunderstanding what I type, or maybe you just don't speak English as a first language...

By "unplug it", I don't mean from your iPhone obviously... I mean from your HEADPHONES!!!! It simply connects to the 3.5mm plug on your headphones and turns them into lightning headphones... Assuming that all your devices in the future are lightning (iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc), you simply move the headphones to each without ever unplugging the adapter!

About Bluetooth... again... NO, it isn't super sh1tty any more... as for "Bluetooth compresses audio"... Dude, you're listening to MP3s on the iPhone (or iPod/iPad)... THEY ARE ALREADY COMPRESSED!!!

And if the Apple headphones really are worse than $7 Chinese headphones (glad they're tested by you personally, that makes me feel like it's an accurate statement), then USE THOSE!!! I refer you (again) back to paragraph 2...

headphones or phone, you'll still unplug it often.
yeah, you compress the already compressed audio. this is the reason why bluetooth sucks. and because the codes are proprietary you don't even get a boost in quality from using above average bluetooth headphones.

I really don't get why you think that Apple forcing people to use extra cables, dongles or splitters just to use a pair of headphones is a good idea. if you didn't care about it you would not argue so much with me, but instead you are defending a stupid decision from apple like it's the best thing since sliced bread. don't tell me... you already bought the 160$ "airpods"? :D

No, you won't.... That's the whole point Apple is trying to make.... You won't need to unplug your adapter from your headphones EVER as long as you're using one of their devices... Eventually you will buy lightning headphones, and the adapter can then collect dust...

And once again... Bluetooth DOESN'T suck.... I really think you might need to get your ears checked.... Millions of people use Bluetooth and seem to love it...

And for the record, I'm not saying losing the 3.5mm is a good idea - I just don't think it's such a big deal... Seeing all these people complaining on here is just highly amusing - I think the reason you're all complaining is you just hate Apple and need something to pick on...

I've already mentioned in a previous thread that I will not be upgrading to the 7... My iPhone 6+ is still quite adequate for my needs... But when I do get a new iPhone one day (probably a 7S+ or 8+), I won't be complaining about the lack of a 3.5mm port...

this sums it up pretty well.

PS: nobody loves bluetooth. it's literally one of the most hated technology ever created. people are just forced to use it since there is no alternative.

Yep.... Humourous, but basically misinformation preying on the assumption that people want to pile on the hate...

And can you provide some proof as to everybody hating Bluetooth please?

Hey, people will always pile on the hate, it's the internet. But this time apple did really give them a good reason to do it.

But this is more than just simple hate. People are making fun of Apple's decision to remove the audio jack. It's that stupid. When Samsung is cracking jokes on stage during their conference, then you know something went wrong.

As for the bluetooth hate, you literally have articles written about why people hate it so much: blog posts, news articles, reddit posts, youtube videos. just take your pick. (there are threads on Apple's subreddit talking about why bluetooth is hated, very interesting to read the problems people have with it daily)
Here are some of the common reason: pairing often fails or bugs out, headsets are both expensive and low quality, battery drains fast for both the phone and the headphones, connection issues are common, only some recent BT headphones reduced the audio lag to acceptable levels and god forbid that you have multiple BT devices that you need to pair :D
In one word: inconsistency. BT is just poorly implemented.

For the record... Motorola and HTC as well as a few others have already gotten rid of the 3.5mm... Apple gets "made fun of" because they're the biggest company... they were also made fun of when they got rid of the optical drive on their laptops...

And, once again, you are talking about 5 years ago's Bluetooth.... The newer (and future) Bluetooth standards are vastly superior, give perfectly adequate audio as well as pairing, range, etc...

yeah, because motorola is doing so good. HTC still has the audio jack.

there is no such thing as perfect pairing for BT because you will be using devices from multiple generations. it will take years for the new BT to penetrate the market outside flagship phones. and I was talking about BT from 2016 not 5 years ago.
you asking people to put down a hundred or two $ just to buy the newest bluetooth headphones to have "adequate audio" instead of using the perfectly good headphones they already own. anything under 100$ barely functions and has a crap battery.

What next, you'll congratulate Apple for removing more features and calling it "innovation"? fanboy much?

Umm someone who's phone has low battery...?

Including watching videos or listening to podcast/music in the following circumstances:

In bed, with phone plugged into wall charger.
On couch, using laptop to charge phone.
On a train, charging with a power pack.
At work, streaming and charging at your desk while working.
that's me.

Sorry, was LeEco, not HTC... point remains the same though... it's coming :)

So for Apple's convenience of a slightly thinner device with more room inside for components (which seemed to fit fine in every previous generation of device) all customers have to suffer the inconvenience of requiring an adapter that introduces mechanically weak connection points between headphones and the phone, the possibility of the adapter being damaged or lost, not being able to charge and listen at the same time, or having to buy Bluetooth AirPods and have lower quality reproduction of music. Sounds revolutionary to me.

Even with an all digital signal path, coding to a different format and then back again has to suffer a loss of quality. Different compression algorithms, and different parts of the signal get thrown away at each stage.

Sales are off, and face it, I don't think even the most fervent of iSheep will tolerate another price hike on the already most expensive phone on the general market. So the only thing Apple thinks it can do is "jack you off", <(pun intended), with the massively inflated prices of "accessories", which they've now intentionally forced upon you. Having been in a similar business, (audio sales), accessories are where the big, nay verily, huge markups exist.

For an example, we used to routinely get $19.95 for a turntable cartridge, (the needle thingy), which had a dealer cost of $5.68. When somebody wanted a "better needle thingy", we would sell them the "next step up", for $29.95. It had a dealer cost of about $7.82.. And the big trick with cartridges like that, is when a large dealer places a large order, the model numbers are specific, (proprietary), to that dealer, so you can't competitively shop around for one.

Apple has been pulling that sh!t for decades. And to me, Apple is nothing more than a gang of thieves, who make their billions off the backs of Foxconn's workers, to whom the credit should actually go.

Now, an audio cartridge isn't the easiest thing in the world to produce. They need to essentially wind a miniature transformer, and machine a tiny sliver of diamond into the stylus. Imagine the markup in a pitiful 2" piece of wire, with a couple of jacks on the ends. The tolerances aren't as tight, and instead of a very fine wire wound transformer, you have t straight pieces of wire, maybe 20 gauge, if that.

And as for that adapter you need, I'm wondering how many of those things will get thrown in the wash and ruined, or just flat out get lost reaching for something in your pocket. You know, you're att the toll booth, you reach in your posket, 5 bucks goes to the toll collector, and the adapter winds up laying on the ground, right next to where your car used to be.

coming? no it's not, Samsung and other big manufacturers already stated multiple times that they aren't removing it.

They say that now... let's wait a few years... And Samsung can mock Apple about the 3.5mm port while Apple mocks them for exploding Galaxy Notes...

not really relevant and Iphone had it's own share of burning phone accidents (I remember reading about something like this in august). Lithium-ion batteries are dangerous in any device.

Lol... about as relevant as your "article" with Samsung making fun of Apple... and while plenty of other companies have had battery issues in the past, I think having to recall your flagship because it might explode goes a little beyond "accidents".

Again... issues are one thing... but only Samsung has had to give a general recall of their flagship device... I think it's pretty obvious that their issue is far more serious...

Again... issues are one thing... but only Samsung has had to give a general recall of their flagship device... I think it's pretty obvious that their issue is far more serious...
To be quite blunt, one issue simply has no bearing on the other. The recall of Samsung's device, has absolutely nothing to do with Apple's choosing to eliminate the recognized industry standard headphone jack from their phone.

Apple is thumbing their nose at standards, in an attempt to extract more profitability from their already overpriced phone.

You can, and should, thank God, that Apple is not in the power and light industry. Since it's not inconceivable they might try to change every socket and plug in our countries, to their proprietary connector.

In other words, if you wanted your electricity from "Jobs Energy", you'd have to rewire every power connector in your home.

OtherTips-Electricity-Header.jpg

Now, in the case of Samsung's recall, Customer's have some responsibility in the issue, by virtue of their demands for larger brighter screens, longer battery life, and whatnot.

At some point, minute manufacturing tolerances and inherently dangerous substances, can converge to create events such as that which has happened with Samsung's batteries.

Although it must be mentioned, after M$ came up with their massively ugly new "Windows" logo by employing Apple's advertising firm, one has to wonder what backroom connection there might be between Apple and Samsung's battery supplier.

Agreed....which is why I said the previous post by puiu was irrelevant.... But thanks for the nice rant that's even less relevant crankytroll :)
Nothing I say seems to be relevant to you, and yet...........Well, you've been hanging around 6 year olds so much, you're starting to write like them..:p

That's only because most of what you say IS irrelevant...

Here's a cool link for you though...looks like Samsung might be dropping the 3.5mm port as well...

Also seen a similar article on slashdot, geek and redmondpie.com...

If true, I wonder what Apple will add to it's advertising campaign...
