  1. I have an ide to usb interface card and i also have usb 2.o installed in my pc. I have xp pro service pack 2. Pent 4 2.6ghz 512 megs ram. I am trying to access an older quantum hard drive to reformat it into one partition. I have tryed hooking it up direct to my motherboard via the ide cables and also have hooked it up to my usb ports to no avail. The os sees the hard drive but wont assiagn a letter to it. Is there any way to get this drive to work. Thanks in advance

Try different jumper settings on HardDrive

    CS Cable Select
    M Master

    even S Slave

I've got the same device, sometimes it works on one setting sometimes another.

Also check Start - Run - CMD and try the drive letter (that you think it should be)
    D: <enter> or E: <enter>
Then DIR to view the files

Also confirm Device Manager is clean before plugging it in
