Bottle rockets, sparklers and Roman candles are among the most popular types of fireworks sold to consumers. Heck, even those paper-wrapped snap pops can be a blast (no pun intended) but did you know that they also contain precious metal?

YouTube channel Cody’s Lab recently purchased 100 boxes of snap pops and set about trying to extract any silver content that may be lurking within. Surprisingly enough, he was able to mine more than four times as much silver as he was expecting. As you’ll see, it’s far from an economical investment but the science behind it certainly is interesting.

Hmmmmm .... I am thinking working at a crematory and melting the silver amalgam fillings down and extracting the silver might be a bit more productive as long as none of those nosey relatives show up and wonder why I will have a mountain of teeth in storage. Not nearly as much fun as a popper .... I think. Just how many pounds of pressure does it take for the human head to "pop"? Back to the lab!
