Watch Live: Samsung Unpacked 5 event, Galaxy S5 announcement

I think it has more to do with where Samsung went wrong (and where Apple usually have gotten things right), for an incremental upgrade, do not use a new model number, instead they should have called it Galaxy S4 (whatever letter they haven't used yet), this alone would have made much more sense.
This is exactly what I said in an earlier post.

Seriously, what did people expect?
At this point, making a huge difference in smartphones is pretty much non possible.
Better battery life is not going to happen until some years where the new tech for batteries will become available and cheap.
The HD screen is just fine and now they added a smart way to control the brightness. What did you want? A 4k resolution screen on 5 inch? Lol
Processor and ram are an ok incremental and camera is more than I personally expected.

Hardware wise, this is very ok. Now those who wanted more need a reality check.
Guest, I couldn't agree with you more but I still don't think they should've called it S5. S4(+) or something along those lines would've been better. Personally I'm not disappointed with this phone either, it's what I expected and a bit more.
Thank you.

Pretty much sums it up, now I'm going into depression and despair... I actually read a guest that makes sense... my whole life is upside down...

Well still no reason to upgrade your phone from an S3, higher clocks is not enough :p

I have to say the idea of turning your screen black and white to save energy sounds amazingly cool.

I know it all sounds crazy. Higher res is useless on a 5 inch and there's no need for better hardware, plus the battery will suffer. Still, the expectations were pretty high and this was kind of a let down for those people, I mean it's the same phone. Other manufacturers will probably do the same with their new flagships because there is not much that can be improved and there is no need for it.

"an ultra power saving mode can turn the display to black and white and disable all unnecessary features"
I wonder what they consider "unnecessary"? I can't see 24 hours on <10% with 4g even on, let alone features like texting.

"Samsung claims this can extend the GS5's battery life by up to 24 hours in standby with just 10 percent of battery life left."

They said while in Standby mode. Which is when the phone is locked and not being used. And I assume they classify the mobile network(3g/4g) as unnecessary in the super power saver mode, disabling the mobile network alone on a phone improves the battery life immensely.

Honestly the S3 and S4 were never the best Android phone, other companies have made higher quality higher performing, with better specifications in some areas phones. What they are though is a simple phone in design and function, with decent battery life, great screens, and more then enough performance for 90% of android users. Why change that? All the high end features will add cost to the unit the S4 sells so well because people can get it for $50 with a new 2 year contract from most carriers, even the unlocked version wasn't crazy priced for the features it was packing. The technology that was added or changed is just advances in important areas, why change the design if there was nothing wrong with it? Calling it the S5 made sense to me, there not doing the apple naming scheme but they are taking the not broke don't change attitude, and for that it will sell in large amounts, especially when certain promotions will offer it for $50-$100 with a 2 year contract, and no other android flagship will be even close to that price point on promotion.
