Weekend Open Forum: Are you an early adopter?

I'm an early adopter whenever my funds look good. Right now I'm an innocent bystander.

I was an early adopter of the Xbox One, and I sold it after two months. Going in, it had some features I thought looked pretty neat. The idea of having one console that controlled nearly all of my media and gaming sounded pretty sweet.

It just wasn't all that great, sadly. The games were bland. Most of the interesting upcoming games are also on PC, and I have a gaming PC. The media features were neat at first, especially being able to use the HDMI-in connection to hook up my HTPC. Sadly, Microsoft removed that feature and stated that the HDMI-in was meant purely for cable boxes. Once they removed that feature, I was done.

I am not saying it's a bad console. For people who don't use gaming PCs, it's a fine choice to have access to what looks to be some solid new-generation titles, like the new Batman game. Also, if you still use cable TV, the way it interacts with cable boxes is pretty cool.

I was also an early adopter of every version of Windows since Windows 95, and the only time I regretted doing that was with Windows ME. Even Vista with its early driver issues was still a fine OS, it just needed at least 4GB of RAM to really feel smooth.
