Weekend Open Forum: Do you ever pre-order video games?

I did only once, for StarCraft II. Too much anticipation was developing around that one.

Preordered CoD a few times and got burned with that :/ last good CoD was BO1, BF preorders were pretty good, Never buying or preordering CoDs anymore they are garbage nothing but 4month development....

I preordered dark age of Camelot after playing in the beta. I preordered world of Warcraft after playing the beta. I preordered warhammer online collectors edition after playing the beta (wish I hadn't now).

I have preordered destiny at game in uk but that was to get into the beta. Only put a fiver down and I can spend it on something else in there if their price isn't competitive at release.

Trying to think of the worst game I preordered. Worst one I nearly preordered.... Aliens colonial marines.

Ha.... hahahaha.... hahahahahahaha wait wait I need to catch my breath omg... so funny.
Do you have a low IQ and admit to it ? Could be another way to phrase this question.
Pay somewhere like £50+ on a game riddled with bugs just to be like those *****s who post "First" on forums.
No game is worth more than £20 new in my opinion and even thats generous. I would rather pay under £10, £3.74. Ah Steam Sales prove where pricing should be constantly. But hey if you want that extra in game content, the hat, the armor, the weapon, the bragging rights... yeah its all not worth a damn.

Empire: Total war ... was worth it. Some WoW till I realised it's a second job. Mass Effect 3 ... still regret it. Last Tomb Raider ... was actualy good. And now Dragon Age 3 ... if they mess it up like they did whit ME3 I never buy game from them again.

Probably will preorder something again if I find a good game I whant to try NOW. Divison from Ubisoft looks good. Next Tomb Raider maybe.

I'm from eastern EU so one good thing is U can get a game 10 to 15% cheaper if U preorder. We never get the fancy preorder wepons or DLC anyway. Somekind of regional problem.

But 90% of my games I buy from steam after the good old -75%. :)

Almost never. 90% of the games I have on Steam are from sales/humble bundles, and when I had consoles I almost always bought games used. It takes a lot to convince me a game is worth full price.

The incidental knick-knack DLC that pre-orders grant you is little incentive. I can live without a weapon skin if I avoid spending too much on mediocre product.

I have never pre-ordered a game and logic tells me not to. Why? Well what guarantee that the supplier won't go into administration and they cannot supply the goods! I noticed that Game have signs announcing pre-orders but it is only a short time ago they were in serious financial trouble.

I already preorder The Witcher 3 on GOG, also preordered The Witcher 2, Deus Ex Human Revolution and that's it. Pretty good choices in fact.

I've only preordered games three times in my life: The Orange Box on Steam (big fan of Half Life since 1998 and Portal was a pleasant surprise) and a couple of World Of Warcraft expansions (Wrath Of The Lich King and Cataclysm, the first one being a total failure because I preordered a physical copy and ended up playing almost two days after everyone else). So bascally preordered digital games to play on day one.

I have pre-ordered BF3, BF4 and Crysis 2. Two out of those three were dissapointments so I will not pre-order again unless I absolutely LOVE the beta/demo.

Pre-ordering aids in developers getting money for bad games imo. In fact, pre-ordering is so common, it could even encourage bad and unfinished games to be developed and released.

Even the internet has helped release bad and unfinished games due to the fact developers can patch and *cough* finish *cough* their games post release. Sometimes even to include features and textures that were "meant" to be included with the retail versions. I'm looking at you Crysis 2, and you Watchdogs.

I'm sticking with waiting until after games are released, I've seen the video reviews, AND I've looked into problems gamers are having.

The only game I ever pre ordered was F.E.A.R. and that was because I was not gonna have the $$ when it came out in 4 months. I always try to wait a few weeks for all the hotfixes and release week patches.

On steam I tend to pre-order games sometimes but only if it's a title I am very familiar with I.e. Titanfall. I almost always pre-order Call of Duty games. There's some others too like Homefront that I pre-ordered. The bulk of my games on Steam are from the flash sales which are just too good to resist. I like to pre-order games so that once I get home from work the game is already installed and ready to play. Games that I am not familiar with I will wait to the reviews get posted online.

People tend to lump preordering in worth paying full price for a game. Preordering is irresponsible unless there are early reviews (Mario Kart 8 or Last of Us). However, I strongly disagree with those commenters who think games aren't worth $60. There are plenty of games that should get full price, and it's an entitled attitude to think that Steam Sales and $10 games are what the norm should be. Mobile games succeed in the race to the bottom, but I doubt many want AAA and other console/PC games to resemble mobile any more than they already do.

I do not understand the mentality of pre ordering a game.
Everyone moans about EA and nickel and diming people. And yet its ok to pre order a title, that needs a 32gb patch in the first week, and has 30 bits of DLC.
It's ok to be tempted by a shiny outfit so you can look the campest on the battlefield.
And it's ok that all content will be included free in the half price GOTY edition that will then be practically free in a sale.
And I get there are is a lot of overheads, they have to spend a small fortune into advertising, to let you know, that everyone is switching to the next call of duty clone. But half the time it is a clone, it is sub par, and it isnt worth your cash.

I pre-ordered pretty much every hit title in the last 8 years. Anything that got alot of buzz, I had pre-ordered. I like the idea and I use gamestop for the sole reason of having people to talk to solely about games. I love the entire industry, I can't get enough of it. I have no problem paying $60 for a new game since I am not cheap and I have alot of friends that work in the industry. It is people's lack of proper payment through torrent sites and such that does affect the employment in the entertainment industry. So I watch my movies in 3D, and I pre-order video games.

I've pre-ordered my fair share; Metal Gears. Grand Theft Autos, Saints Row IV and a few others.

The only game I've ever pre-ordered in my life was CS:GO, and that's because as a hardcore CS player I decided it's only right to own every CS.

I pre-order games often. Now, If there is no "bonus" to pre-ordering.... I don't do it. Furthermore, I don't just pre-order because there is something extra - it has to be worth the money rendered. If the buyer believe it's worth it, I don't see a problem with it. I think a better question would be " Do you ever purchase games at full price?" lol.

World of Warcraft, World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (No regrets)
Tabula Rasa, Hellgate London, SWTOR, AION (Big Regrets) Hellgate being the worst...
Did Grim Dawn Early Access on Steam and it's pretty good so far.

In the past I have pre-ordered a game or two but these days I have so many games I haven't even installed much less played, it wouldn't make sense. I can wait these days.

No pre-order of games for me. games are a hit and miss so I'd like out early adapters to provide feedback before I shell out money.

although I'd like to pre-order starcraft II: legacy of the void so I can play the games (and know the storyline) ASAP. if this happens, then this will be my only pre-order in history.
