Weekend Open Forum: Is your phone in a protective case?

My phone is required to wear a prophylactic-condom cover at all times to prevent acquiring STD- and virus-type diseases during random NFC encounters with other phones.

I detest adding too much bulk to a phone Burt. The Tech21 for the G3 doesn't detract from the slender profile of my phone, but adds much needed grip and a fair amount of protection. Sure it's not a "ballistic" but for handling assurance and edge protection, I don't think they can be beat. Varies from one device to another though, certainly.

Tech21 case and Tech Armor glass protection on an LG G3.
The case is extremely well designed British ingenuity.
The T-Armor is also perfect in execution.

Wouldn't go without on both fronts!
Firstly I have never used a case with any of my phones, only phone I smashed to bits by accident (fell off my bike and landed on it) was my iPhone 4S.

That Tech21 stuff actually looks exactly what I am after though! I have a 6Plus now and they do the wallet style cover, I've read around and it appears almost everyone who gets a Tech21 case love it to bits so thanks to MoeJoe I might soon be using a case :)

I used to purchase cases for my phones, but found myself constantly taking them off, for a number of reasons—I.e. to constantly clean dust and dirt out of the crevices, to feel the actual shape and materials, to admire the design, because certain materials would "stick" uncomfortably to my pockets. I eventually just gave up the act, and stopped buying them.

However, I did buy a custom wood veneer from Lastu for the back of my Z3 as the glass back was just impractical and I actually didn't like the feel of it. The wood feels much better and doesn't feel as insanely fragile.

The questionj is now do you HAVE a phone? The people here in prestigous dupage county illinois don't even know how to get a free obamaphone nor how to turn a smartphone on and off.

No I can’t stand the bulky protective cases. I am yet to break a smartphone and I do quite a lot of building in my free time.

My Galaxy S3 was abused badly and never cracked under the pressure ;) The same has been true for my Galaxy Note 2, 3 and now 4. I love the design of the Note 4 so I am trying to look after it a bit better, no scratches so far ;)

I know I am about to have a bit of a crack at iPhone users here but I know a few of them and they all have those indestructible cases on their phone.

Hey why do you own an iPhone? “Ohh they just look so sexy compared to those Samsung ones.”

But you have a huge case on it making that little phone as big as my Galaxy Note. “Yeah I know they break easily and this is my 3rd one”.

Okay looks sexy :)

Yes, a simple thin case for my plastic smartphone. the plastic is so bad that you can scratch it easily with your fingernail. I dont want to be seen carrying a relatively new smartphone full of scratch.

The individual I bought mine from bought a cover for it so I could use the stand on it to watch my news/videos,etc,etc. I accidently broke the stand part off trying to turn the volume down but but will keep the cover on.

Yes of course. I use a good old fashion phone condom on my Galaxy S4. I've had the phone for about 22 months now, and have only dropped it 3 times.

Nope. The most I do is a screen protector with my HTC One M8.

While I have horrible luck with other things, I'm usually the opposite with my phones. I probably should have cracked my phone's screen by now with how often it's fallen out of my shorts pockets, but it's still oddly fine.

No case on my galaxy s5, dropped it several times by accident so a couple of dents on plastic chrome ring surrounding it but nothing major.

Some years ago my landlord had a car with nice leather seats "protected" with plastic covers.
I am sure he got a good price for the car when he sold it.
I prefer to enjoy something beautiful the way it was designed and not leave that for the guy after me.

Oh, hell yes. My son doesn't like to put his phone(s) in a case, and he shatters the screen and/or back about every six to nine months. I have a case for mine, and have used a case for every one I've had. No losses yet...

Otter box for my Droid RAZR HD maxx, mostly because I drop my phone way too much. Same reason I insist my wife have an Otter box oin her smart phone. But when you take the case off my phone it still looks brand new after two years of abuse. I k ow it adds some bulk, but the phone feel as too small to me without the case.
Also, Otter Box does stand behind their lifetime warranty. I kept breaking the belt clip for my phone, and each time they replaced not only the belt clip but the whole phone case for free. After the 4th time I under a year I stared to feel bad and found a different way too carry my phone.

I'd prefer a naked phone, but my HTC One M8 was to slippery without some sort of case. I went with a minimal clear gel case with a slight texture on the back and knurling on the sides. The case has an added benefit of guarding the volume buttons. (Which I pressed often on accident when the phone was outside of it's case.) But it also prevents some headphones from being fully inserted into the jack.

I've put a case on every smartphone I have owned. When you have kids that like to play with your phone, then you know better then to not have a case protecting it. Mostly Otter Box cases, but lately I have been getting lesser brand ones.

Yes. I have a case on my Samsung Galaxy S4. It's an Otterbox Defender. It saved my phone many times.
