Weekend Open Forum: Star Wars or Star Trek?

Star wars has some fun stories, but just the scope and detail in Star trek makes it a better franchises . Also aside from the movies in Star wars all canon has been deleted, so it's best stories are gone.

I'm sorry, but that's a stupid question. Star Wars or Star Trek? What about Stargate? Hell, let's throw Farscape in there as well. It's all just good Sci-Fi! I remember when I was a kid, the other kids at school would get passionate about Star Wars vs Star Trek... like it's some kinda competition. I can't really put one above the other. There's good parts and bad parts in all of it.

Star Wars, specially the expendable universe which is full of awesomeness. That said the new Star Trek movies (other than lens flare to the max) are pretty awesome! :)

Both franchises have good and bad parts. I would just like the franchises to put out great stuff rather than trying to drag it out.

Star Trek TOS
I was 7 when they came on TV in the 60's...too bad the internet wasn't around back then.
All we could do was send snail mail, which didn't work. A flood of email would possibly
kept it on the air, but, in the same sense, perhaps if it stayed on the air a few more years,
it wouldn't have had the impact of today.
Star Wars is ok, but, personally, it's no Star Trek.

Original Star Wars, Especially Empire... Then original Star Trek episodes and movies. Then the rest of the crap.

But I agree Farscape and Firefly put them both to shame.

I don't understand why somebody would need to make that choice or why does it matter at all...

Because Internet. Therefore everything should be ranked. I fully expect another site to trump TS and publish an article "Ten Science Fiction shows that will make you age faster".
All of this is not to say I wasn't taken in by "Farscape", as I have the whole collection. Ben and Claudia just never quite gelled or seemed believable to me as a couple. I loved the series in spite of them, just not because of them.
I know what you mean! redneck hooks up with and impregnates a non-blood relative. I guess that's why it's called science fiction.

Well I ask myself same thing over and over. So including all series I like:

DS9=B5/SG-Atlantis/SG-1+remaining Trek series/SW (it has good points - Thrawn, gargantuan ships, Dark Empire, Vader but in the end far too much fantasy idiocies & supposedly good vs supposedly evil stuff when both sides are equally bad and mass murderers are on both sides).

Hate to the core new Jar Jar Abrams Trek, let it burn....

Star trek v star wars you forgot the best sci fi show ever thats still going and it started befor star trek
dr who is the best off the 3

In spite of that, it's rumored that they still use separate outhouses and lunch counters.

After the cancellation of Farscape, it's also rumored that Claudia Black, when asked, "what's next for you", replied, "well I'm far too butch to join the Village People, so maybe I'll train for Ultimate fighting"!

I didn't watch 'farscape' so I had to re-read this statement. I remember Ben and Claudia both appearing in stargate: sg1 season 10 and the movies 'ark of truth' and continuum'.

Sorry, I still can't see them as a couple. He's much prettier than her.

I remember all the hype when Star Wars first come out and looked forward to seeing it. It must have been the most disappointing movie experience I have had. The FX was fantastic but I hated C-P30 and R2-D2. Chewbacca was another annoying character along with Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. I would sum the movie up as Battle of Britain in space with cute characters.
The consequence of too much hype, and not enough experience to back it up, are why abstinence until marriage, and virgin brides are such anti-climaxes. Life is an anticlimax in general, hence the need to invent religion, (as well as sci-fi).

I enjoy Star Trek but there were low points especially some of the STNG episodes featuring children. I really liked the Voyager stories with Seven of Nine and my opinion of the final TV series Star Trek Enterprise went up when I saw it recently.
Patrick Stewart as "Picard" was really overbearing in STNG.

Despite the fact Scott Bacula can't act to save his life, perhaps even failing on his personal recognizance, I liked Star Trek Enterprise as well.

I'm curious to see if the new N.C.I.S. spin off, "N.C.I.S: New Orleans", with Bacula in the lead role, floats or sinks.

Like others there are other Sci Fi series that I really like such as Blake Seven, Andromeda, Doctor Who, Quatermass, BSG (reboot), Stargate, Farscape just to mention a few.
Change that to read, "the first four seasons of Andromeda", were great, and we'll be on the same page. Season 5 was a complete abomination. That's when the "dear one", Kevin Sorbo as "Hercules in Space's" ego got the very best of him, and the writing staff must have digressed to getting their ideas from overdosing on coke and weed.

Justin Beiber is too butch for the Village People. Having said that Claudia's look tends to polarize the SF geek community. Personally I don't mind her look - the set of choppers are a little distracting, but much less so than Summer Glau's fivefourhead - not quite Mena Suvari or Peyton Manning territory, but that girl could Liverpool Kiss a Cape Buffalo.

Both of them got drafted into Stargate to boost the ratings after Richard Dean Anderson left. Stargate SG1, if I remember correctly, did a Farscape homage in one of their episodes I think.

And back to Star Trek and Star Wars...

Forehead or not, I say we make a poll out of this....

"Live long and prosper" as Star Trek's Mr. Spock used to say. Or as I say, "Claudia Black over Summer Glau, most illogical".

I tried to link images of the African Buffalo for comparison's sake, but got locked out by copyright restrictions.:D

And I would bet you are even further from being perfect, but that doesn't shut you up. I've lost count of the times I have seen you degrade someones appearance, a virtue of which there is no control. You are highly disrespectful!

You clearly have learned nothing Grasshopper. Devise a poll for Summer Glau or Claudia Black, and (judging by this thread and virtually every poll on the net) I'd guarantee most people would relegate both behind their fave SF girl. I'm pretty sure Tricia Helfer, Morena Baccarin, and Gillian Anderson have reasonably sized fan bases.

They were both introduced in series 9 SG1. It is a crying shame that the franchise has been cancelled.
