Weekend Open Forum: What is your favorite set of headphones?

I use MM 550-X TRAVEL when under way and RS 170 when at home both are very good

Currently use Steelseries 7H fnatic edition headphones, I actually really like them, I've tried many different gaming headsets and Steelseries is one of the only gaming manufacturers who "get it" in sound quality department, I personally would like to try the Audio Technica ATH-AG1's to replace my Steelseries (they're pretty banged up and the right ear cup looses sound regularly) but I can't find many reviews on them?

If I can't be persuaded in the next couple of months to get them I'll probably go for Seelseries again, 9h this time.

I use Klipsch S4-II's. Has the clearest and most balanced sound out of any sub-$50 ear buds I've tried.

It depends if you listen to music or play games and watch movies. Years ago I was a bit of an audiophile so I never used headphones to listen to music, I used speakers but most of today's music is so terrible that the best way to listen to it is through earmuffs on as far as I'm concerned. Nowadays I only use headphones to play games (I'm not a movie watcher) and my favourite are whichever ones I'm using at the time and at the moment I'm using Roccat Kave XTD's. Having said that, Roccat is the only brand of peripheral's I personally use.

Wait a minute... Beats headphones are used in the Pro recording industry all the time. From what everyone says, their noise canceling tech is the best in the business and the headphones themselves are virtually indestructible.

Panasonic RP-HTF600s... on delivery... can't wait for them to get here...

I have a pair of beats pro. Theyre pretty comfortable for 2 hours tops. After that they start hurting but I have a big head. For work I use a cheap pair of skullcandy ink'd because they have a mic, are cheap and I tend to break headphones at work so that precludes any fancy ones.

Sennheiser PC360. I wanted a good pair of over the ear, but still able to hear my wife yell at me ;-) , style of headphone. I spent a few days pouring over amazon and gaming sites comments looking for the right pair. I already knew I was going to go with Sennheiser's because I had a pair years ago that my wifes dog was kind enough to take a dump on. I loved those headphones..hate that lil crap dog!

Anyway, these headphones are great. They are comfortable for long gaming sessions and they sound great. I like the mic and the fact that it turns off when stored in the upright position. The volume control--on the opposite ear cup of the mic--is perfect.

Someone else mentioned Grado SR-80 and I agree. They roll off the highs a little but are inexpensive, comfortable, and sound great. My only real complaint is the cord is a little too long (I use them with a laptop).

I'm not into gaming headphones. Years ago I had Koss headphones and now I have Sony noise cancelling headphones. They both worked great. Don't believe that listening to loud music damages your hearing. I listened all thru my teen years and when I went to work at the Chicago Tribune they gave a hearing test,.She told me I did the best she had ever done.

Audio Technica ATH-A500x with Sound Blaster Zx card. Goes nice, and comfy for long sessions.

I have some Senheiser PC350's.

- SQ, love them. HOWEVER
- Ear cups and over-head padding disintegrate quickly with daily use and only ear cups are replaceable at owner's expense.

Won't be getting another set. Looking for the next great one in line.

I've got the BeyerDynamic DT880-Pro, and they're quite good, not only in sound quality, but also in wearability. They do require a hotter signal, though.

One point that surprises me: why do people buy cheap audiocards and headphones? If you only game, I can understand it, but people spend quite some money on other hardware, yet listen to music on a $20 headphone straight from the cheapo built-in audio output. Why not spend a bit more and listen to the music they way it's meant to sound? Or is the music in reality not that important?
I have the DT880, but not the Pro. I haven't followed their phones since I bought mine. I can't even remember what ohm rating mine are.

As to your other point - I don't really use mine from a computer, I hook them up to my HT receiver.

Sennheiser HD650 at home, will soon have a customized Bottlehead Crack hand made for me.

at work I use a HD598 with the iphone 4s.

previously owned Audio technica AD700, AD900, AD900X

definitely stay away beats, bose, and most of the sony.

I quit using headphones years ago because they usually broke from me wearing them as I sleep so I now use ear buds & love them. No particular name brand thou.

I'm kind of a crazy headphones collector, Ive tried and bought everything from cheap to somewhat high mid range expensive. For Gaming on the go I use logitech G35s, also have the Creative Sigma Tactics and are great bang for your buck. For Gaming on my desktop I use Klipsch Promedia 2.1 with a Creative 3D RECON Fatality, if I need headphones I plug in the Logitechs. For listening on the go I Have many but I think the best one for long use are my Bose QC15s, for earbuds I use S4 reference or Triple FIs, I just bought a pari or Jabra REVO wireless and I like them so far, very convenient to loose the cables when on the go. For home use as im a dj I use Pioneer HDJ 1500s and SOl republic Tracks Ultra when on the couch....I guess it will depend on what kind of music you hear and your budget. Ive pretty much Spent the time and money in figuring which are best depending on budget.

Loudspeakers, pure and simple! I've never owned a pair of phones that I used for anything other than convenience.

For example, I routinely use 3 or four different computers, and I have phones laying around so that I don't have to hook a speaker system to each one..

But then again, I'm not a gamer, so I don't really need an 18 channel pair of "Extreme Super High Fidelity Ear Blaster 7000s". to fully immerse myself in the killing and gore.

God knows, I can look out my front door for that...

Sometimes I use my Beyers just to avoid getting the cops called on me. I have a respectable home theater system with a 600W 12" sub. However, sometimes (often) people don't appreciate hearing that if they aren't actually at my place. So if its late at night (or sometimes early morning), I will wear my phones out of respect for neighbors and fear of the police (you can get tazered for anything these days).

I have a pair of JBL "Stadiums", (2 / 8" woofers, and certainly not their top of the line by any means). However, I have "soundproofed", my only active party wall. So, I spare myself the electric bill of turning on the sub, (10" 300 watt), and those front towers provide plenty of adequate bass, for my ancient, very midrangey taste in aural spectrum. You don't really need a sub to listen to something like, "The Byrds Greatest Hits", now do you?

Plus, I'm a bachelor, orphan, and only child. So to my cats I say, "f*** you, if you can't take a joke".

Bachelors, orphans, and only children, are so hideously self involved. I know right?

And I know you might not believe this, but last Saturday night, somebody fire bombed the house up the street from me, and the racket those damned firetrucks made, was enough to piss any body off.....

The difference here;

- This is a headset/phone thread
- regardless, cops come if you piss of the neighbors enough just the same way. I choose headphones for personal listening. Plus, they sound better then my 10x 6.25" + 5x1" Polk speakers with 600W Klipsch 12" sub professionally setup 5.1 home-theater setup.

The headphones sound BETTER in any case for high-fidelity private listening as they don't have to battle room acoustics and other factors. Plus they can keep the other sounds out. - Although if I lived in a neighborhood as bad as you suggest yours is, I'd be afraid to fart for someone would shoot me for making the noise.

I also HATE the > 2.0 headsets. You only have two ears and can't hear more. I use the PC350's with positional games and you can tell EXACTLY where someone is. The higher driver counts just lose responsiveness to smaller drivers anyhow. Don't fool yourself.
