Weekend Open Forum: What's the oldest gadget you still use regularly?

25 year old emerson color tv in the kitchen. It has a digital to analog converter and an antenna. Ironically, there was a 20 year old emerson microwave oven that just arced out about a year ago. We haven't even lived here 20 years, so they survived the move.

My Samsung SyncMaster 204B is probably the oldest computer part I regularly use. I find it impressive that it's still working and I will miss it when it's gone (what would I replace a 20" 1600x1200 monitor with?).

The oldest gadget I regularly use is my phone, a Nokia 6120c.

I probably have older stuff around, but these are things I really use all the time.

Hopefully with a 1920 X 1200, 16:10 aspect ratio 24 incher, (or better). Although, I'd grab one of those before the Samsung breaks, because those 16:10's are disappearing fast....:D

I had a 1600 by 1200 20" Westie, which had an untimely demise, which was my own damn, dumb, lazy fault. Nice piece was that, I still kinda miss it.

The new "hi-def" junk they're selling, with the 200 nits of "glaring brightness", you need to light a candle to see if your monitor is on....

Since it's terribly impolite to ask a lady her age, I'm going to go with, "did you buy that nasty a** noisemaker new...? ;)

So, now I can hear all of you thinking, "when did cranky ever worry about politesse"........???:D

The correct answer is this, ever since Mick Jagger discovered he was the devil, and told me I should...., "Use all you're well learned politesse, or I'll lay your soul to waste"...(sayeth Mick). Ah, we grab life's lessons where we stumble upon them.

Haha! No, captaincranky, I didn't get it new. I dug the Fuzz Wah up from my Dad's stuff in the attic! :D Wasn't working anymore, so I had it repaired.

And, ah, "Sympathy for the Devil" is a great rock n' roll song!

Personally I prefer small and high resolution, but it looks like outside of phones, tablets and a few laptops nobody is making high res panels. But yes, I imagine I'd go for a 24" 1920x1200, since that's the common size for this resolution, and higher res screens are 27", which is way too big.

Not sure if this "technically" is a gadget, if by gadget it has to be powered by a battery, but, for the past 40 years, I've used (those who have been in the military will be familiar with it), a P38 can opener almost every day. For prying, opening boxes, LOL, cleaning the crud from under your fingernails, that little piece of metal has NEVER let me down! Wouldn't go anywhere without two things. My trusty P38, and my SOG Trident knife!

Realistic STA-2150, New to the 1989 Catalog year for Radioshack, can be found on page 16. Use it in my room to power a newer pair of Realistic speakers (Still from the early nineties). After that it would be my car, 98 Accord, everything else I use regularly comes from the 2000's.

Logitech speakers & Logitech G mouse. Bought in 2003. Both still work like there brand new.

The calculator on my desk at work is a HP 41-C that I purchased in 1980 so I wouldn't have to do my engineering homework on a VAX. Yes, I'm THAT old! I no longer bother programming it anymore, but back it the day I wasn't afraid to write short programs during exams. Today it is just a "desk" calculator that I continue to use for its wonderful key feel and because I make so many fewer mistakes when I use RPN.

So next I guess it would be my Motorola Xoom Tablet. I want something new, but it still works and looks like new!

Hehe, I have a Xoom too. :) Even though I don't use it as much as I used to, I am still happy to call it one of my best purchases in a long time. Likewise, I am still happy to say that there is no need to update it! A nexus 10 refresh might give me reason (if it has microSD), but if the Xoom still works fine for my purposes then it's a bit of a waste!

Casio FX-991ES Scientific Calculator, 7 or so years old, simple and necessary gadget and still in my regular use. Although I can easily ditch it since several scientific calculator apps are available, but I guess some old habits are worth keeping ;)

Edit:
It replaced an earlier 350 series Scientific Calculator, which died due to 'natural causes'.

Dell optiplex GX280 small form factor motherboard. I just can't make myself get rid of it. I have other motherboards, and dell tower systems out of the wazoo, but I love my gx280. It was my first full build, and I'm gonna use it until it literally falls to pieces.

My HP 15C Scientific Calculator followed by my HP iPAQ 211.

I'm replacing the 211 this week, but the 15C will likely last me forever. :)

TI-85 from 1992. I use it at work several times per week. In 1996 I spilled Gatorade on it and the store key quit working. The second oldest gadget I use is my Microsoft Natural keyboard from 1996. USB->PS/2 adapter FTW!
