Weekend Open Forum: When was the last time your PC got a major revamp?

8 years ago I had 512 MB RAM so I put another 512 MB RAM for a total of 1024 MB RAM, major revamp indeed.

Have not done anything major for almost 7 years.
With the crappy games released I just don't see the point any more?
I did just replace my Geforce 8800GTS 512MB with a GTX 780 Ti
It was to play Far Cry 3 but the fun quickly faded.
Played some Crysis 3 aswell and while it was a tremendous improvement over Crysis 2 the feeling of the first Crysis or Far Cry just is not there any more.
Downloaded the free Battlefield 4 today and that was just a facepalm, playing it mostly just to amuse myself.
I said in another post that the FoV must be 60 but playing some more I have to say that it must be even lower than that!
Feels like you are wearing binoculars all the time, game is pretty much unplayable in the single player campaign mode!
And let me not get into all the bugs I've seen, and supposedly I'd assume I'm on the latest patch level, good job game devs!

Whack the FOV up to 90.

My pc probably gets a new part every year or so, Last being a msi gtx 670 oc.

@fimbles it is not possible to change the FoV in the campaign, only in multiplayer.

Bugs seen so far while only running through the campaign (I'm sure I missed some due to the low FoV making me feel nauseous)

1: After chopper took off in rescue VIP mission, killed all enemies but game does not progress, needed to restart checkpoint.
2: Fell through floor of boat in China on the way to Valkyrie, right before loading screen.
3: Right after picking up the Voyage Recorder Kovic ran through the hull & all doors where closed, needed to restart whole mission.
4: Shot down helicopter over Valkyrie, troops came running out of midair, when the chopper had already crashed.

Aug 2013, got the latest Haswell 4770K, over-clocked, array of Samsung 840 Pro-s. But the major effect was from nVidia GTX 780 + DELL U3014 + Windows 8.1. Web experience has never been this good.

Life is good :)

I do 3-4 years refresh:

2004: Pentium 4 Dell server
January 2008: Q5500 with 8800GT
February 2012: 2500K with GTX 560ti

I did add a 750gb Samsung EVO SSD in 2013 because my crucial M4 128gb was running out of room.

Asrock z97 extreme 6. I7 4790 running at 4.6. Solid state drive WD black. 16 GBP ram. 660 gtx.

I played through the campaign, I didn't see or have any issues. When I'm killing, I'm not really paying attention to much. Granted I didn't buy the game till months after it game out as I had beta tested BF4 and the game was still in Alpha then. 10 months later, while some updates have come and fixed some things, still has a ways to go if it can even be fixed.

I more recently upgraded my PC to keep up with my freelance 3D work. I still wanted something that could play games however so I opted out of the K series Nvidia cards.

Intel i7 4390
64 gigs 2400 Dominator Ram
SLI Nvidia 780 Ti's (2)
SSD 500GB Boot Disk
7 TB's in hard drives
1200 W Power supply.

I keep all specs stock for the first few years, around year 3 I overclock most of the components. Around year 5 or 6 I overhaul with a new PC. I have successfully managed this for about 10 years now.

I used my Dell laptop for five years. And after all that time it was as fast as ever. I upgraded it to Macbook Air, well, because I'm a tech junky. I could've used my Dell for another 3 years.

It's probably around a year since my last big upgrades. I'd have to dig through my receipts go be sure, but I think my last upgrades were 128GB SSD, GPU, and my custom 1/2" acrylic side panel.

I pretty much only play 3 games, so it's hard for me to even find an excuse to upgrade. I haven't had 8 cores yet, so maybe this winter I'll go big with new 8 core CPU, motherboard, GPU, and Gsync 120/144Hz monitor.

Depends on what people define as a major revamp. For my desktop I replaced the video cards and updated the liquid cooling system to the new standards for the cards about 8 months ago now maybe more including a different CPU.

The last complete overhaul was around 2 years ago when I assembled the majority of the cooling system for this specific box in the 800D.

My laptop will be getting a major overhaul on tuesday with a new GPU, wireless card, and some cleaning up.

@Per Hansson

Never noticed the 60 fov cap in single player mode before, now its painfully obvious cheers :)

I do mostly play multiplayer though thankfully.

The last major update was GTX690
Was thinking of getting the new i7 but did some research and it's not much faster than my current i7 2600k so no thanks. I think I can see out the next 4 to 5 years without upgrade

Per are you still using win 2000? or is that just on your server? ....or am I just having a senior moment? hehe

Just recently got an MSI 970 gaming motherboard, an FX-6300, and 4GB DDr3. still waiting for the replacement mobo from the RMA, and ill add 4 more GB later on.

Last august it was a corsair C70, a seasonic 750w PSU, and the GTX 660. the case has LEDs around the inside, 2 blue LED fans, and an NZXT sentry controller.

Next up will be at least a 1TB HDD for steam and movies and/or a 32/64GB SSD for windows and drivers and such.

I used to upgrade about once every 18 months, but haven't done anything for two years and won't until Skylake processors and the next gen of video cards comes out.

As of now, my PC will handle any game released at max settings, so I'm fine with waiting.
