Weird Red/Off-Color, Moving Pixels

Hey all,

I've had my Lenovo Y510P for a few years, and it hasn't had serious issues until very recently. For the last few days, quite a few scattered, red and off-color pixels are infiltrating my screen, and moving on and off, usually in some sync with my mouse movements or other on-screen activity. I've also had a couple system crashes and (what I think) is longer than normal boot up times since this time, possibly related.

My computer skills are about average for a millennial, and I haven't tried anything to solve this yet other than a system reset, which my computer said there was an error of, and so no changes actually occurred. My research turned up little, with the only comparable error being the one described here, attributed to bump underfill cracking in the GPU:

Any and all help would be appreciated :/

Off color graphics could signal a heat problem. When was last time you cleaned out the dust bunnies? I clean my laptop every year. Search YouTube for video for your model.

Hmm...I did do that (for the first time ever xP) about a month or two ago. But it is feeling rather warm. I'll try that now.

Be sure to lift out shrouds and clean underneath - confirm air passage is open - be very careful with ribbon connector (it is tricky) and be sure screws go back exactly (long in a short hole is not good).

Hadn't tried lifting out shrouds, just gently cleaned the fans w a toothbrush (there don't seem to be major shrouds on either fan). On first boot-up, everything seemed back to normal for a minute. Then I heard a couple crunching sounds (as if something was resettling--I was pretty meticulous but maybe I missed something), the monitor flickered on and off a second, and then it crashed. All subsequent boots have had the original error again.

Usually under the fan shroud you have passages leading into or out of the plenum area - and those do have to be cleaned as well as the fan. It sounds like your problems came about shortly after the cleaning - you may want to dig out a couple of YouTube videos on your model as there may be a special element or issue.
