Welcome to TechSpot 3.0!

I must have been unlucky this morning as the site looked a bit of a mess. I now realise that I accessed the site during the transition (around 7:00 GMT) which would have been the night time in the USA.

Now it has settled down I am happy with the new look apart from the blue bar that appears in the middle of the screen when scrolling. I am viewing the site on my Android smart phone using Opera. I am relieved that the site has not made any of the mistakes that Toms Hardware are infamous for.

Overall I am happy with the new look. It seems to work as it should and is easy to read.

I see mixed reviews, and for a website redesign, that's a generally positive sign. I guess I appreciate that Techspot hasn't thrown in any major website changes up to this point. Some websites could be classified as redesign *****s but Techspot hadn't changed in a long time. But still, throw me in the pile of ignorant people who think if it isn't broke, why fix it? I dislike the new design and the new logo.

The site looks great, except for one single part: the fixed position header. I never understood, why do designers think it is a good idea to constantly block a fix part of the content, making browsing even more annoying on 16:9 or 16:10 monitors where the useful area is already smaller compared to the old 4:3.
IMHO a fixed sidebar* on the unused left would solve the problem.

* taking up full display height with a width of 30-40px

Nice Design

But even more important to me... Keep the good content going!

On three different machines and operating systems I see the comments showing perfectly in Chrome/Firefox/IE (see screenshot below on how it's supposed to look).

Can you help us troubleshoot? What OS and browser version are you using?

Please post your findings in this thread dedicated to the redesign bug fixes. Thank you!

@cliffordcooley, we are fixing the alerts height DIV soon.

Also, I'm afraid IE8 support is out. We checked our stats, about 3% of our users still are on IE8 (aka the new IE6), we assume from their work PCs. But unfortunately we couldn't do both, use modern coding practices and keep supporting IE8.

@pirate78, text ads are disabled for logged in users, that's one of the perks we offer to our regular readers :)

Just checked again and everything is fine now so it might have just been a delay or something to the update, if I notice it again I'll post in the thread you linked, thanks @Julio Franco

I'll repeat what I already posted in the snowden article:
I don't like the new 'look' but the new techspot sure loads a lot faster.

also, I agree with one guest above. the new 'main' techspot logo with an orange triangle inside an octagon is not to my liking, too.
the 'secondary' techspot logo for the comment section with a white triangle inside a black hexagon within a blue octagon is not to my liking, again.

"Load More Downloads…" does not work with IE11.

Instead of loading more of the new Downloads, it instead returns to the top of the page.

@Julio Franco
Good clean layout (feels similar to ET in some aspects, but a whole lot better), and very nice color scheme which is easy on the eyes. :)

By the way what is with that 'orange triangle' thing in the Techspot's pOt ........

Oh and I made the colossal mistake of posting in the wrong thread :D

The new design is nice and does feel like it loads a tad better, but the top header is a bit too large. it covers a lot of the screen on my laptop and it makes the articles feel a bit cramped prompting me to use the scroll more than usual. everything could have easily been put into a single top bar not 2.

Better load times and updated design. Looks better and more modern. I agree that the top header needs to be "shrunk" a little bit, but other than that its looking good. I personally would have loved to see a pop-out side bar instead of a constant blue "menu" bar on the top. Have it with the same menu options, but just on a collapsible bar. But this works too.

I've been regularly visiting TechSpot for a little over a year so the old design was not yet stale to me. I found it clean and usable, with a refreshing lack of annoyances. Still, I understand the desire to change things to support responsive features.

I find one feature of the new site most annoying: the blue header menu drops down when it detects a mouse hover. It's the often difficult and time-consuming to make the drop-down go away.

Should a user inadvertently or unintentionally hover in this area, she or he must waste effort parking the dropdown before returning to the task at hand. This often happens to me because of a physical issue that affects fine motor control of hand movements. This design feature will likely drive me away from the site over time if it is not resolved.

The answer is simple: require a click on a menu item (Trending, Reviews,, Features, etc.) to cause the dropdown to appear. Less whiz-bang perhaps, but far more usable.

I have noticed that as well. It seems the only option at that point is to hover over the top black bar, to make it hidden again.

I've even noticed a time or two that the drop-down goes away while you are trying to navigate the links within. I tried to pinpoint exactly what was taking place but was unsuccessful.
