Welcome to TechSpot 3.0!

Arr, Me no like change.
I enjoyed the old layout a lot more but I guess can live with a new one, with some tweaks.

Font sizes need to be adjusted across the board. There's too much stuff to list, really. But mostly I feel like you guys designed certain parts to be easily viewable on those extra tiny screens of phones or tablets, but for those of us using normal full sized monitors certain parts just look unnecessarily HUGE. I like large screens because I can usually cram more information into them and not because they make the same small amount of information look bigger...I dont want to see what is a literally 1" tall text (for example, "Reply to Topic" above me now).

In the article section, please, oh please get rid of the left hand panel. All this social media crap...All it does is narrow down the IMPORTANT part of the page, I.e. the text. Did you know that on a widescreen monitor the top of the article only takes up half of the screen space? HALF. The other area is wasted as far as I'm concerned. Again, maybe that works for smaller screens but its just inefficient design in my book.

Right side panels and links are generally more useful but I'd also narrow them a little more. Mostly because they are useful once per day when at most, when you first come to the site, and then its jsut the same information over and over...taking up useful space.

I still havent gotten a feel on the drop down menus. Will try using them throughout the day and see how that goes.

I have noticed that as well. It seems the only option at that point is to hover over the top black bar, to make it hidden again.

I've even noticed a time or two that the drop-down goes away while you are trying to navigate the links within. I tried to pinpoint exactly what was taking place but was unsuccessful.
If you invoke an unwanted drop down, I found the solution is to put your mouse over any part of the drop down again, and then move it down off of the drop down menu. It only appears to stick if you invoke the drop down menu and then very rapidly move your cursor below it.

I love how responsive the site is now. The pages load instantly compared to the way they did. The one thing I have noticed about loading pages with the "first unread comment" links, is it loads to the top of the page under the Header bar. I have to scroll up a bit every time. But if a fix is going to cause the pages to load slower, I will simply deal with it the way it is.

I'll reserve opinion on the redesigned TSpot website until I've experienced it more.

BUT a feature I'd really like you to ADD (as I stated in some prior posts) is to provide a link that enables me to EMAIL a TSpot webpage URL (+ article title) to single or multiple recipients I enter into an "email this page" dialogue box along with my own appended comments (eg: "Tom, read this TSpot video card review before you buy that other card").

As it is currently, I have to copy the TSpot URL, open my email program, compose my comments & paste in the TSpot URL link, then send email - very tedious. My recommended email feature would be great! And, it'd get me & others to disseminate TSpot's content much more frequently to friends - that will get TSpot many more pageviews too.
I do NOT use the usual 'social networking' schemes, those are NOT a viable sharing method for me and others.

I like the new design. The mobile version on my iphone with ios 7.1 with Safari has gone from a very big display bug that made the chat appear under a large version of the home index menu to being quite usable. Couple of things, there is a big line between the name of a user and their title in the comments so it says "techspot chancellor says" as if that's their name. Looks odd. Also I clicked to view the forum earlier and to read a chat directly linked (someone had quoted my post) and the error message said too many redirects. Still, fair enough. Hard work doing this kind of upgrade, good to see things being fixed fast and it does look cool.

The new TechSpot 3 does not work initially with a Nexus 7 and Chrome if you have it in Portrait mode and wish to change the settings to using Full info instead oh Headlines.

Once you have made the changes in Landscape mode you can then view in Portrait mode.

I'm definitely happy that the site was updated for mobile devices. The old mobile site didn't even come close to taking advantage of today's smartphones. It was simply outdated.

The only annoying thing I've seen with the new site is a big TECHSPOT sign in the upper left hand corner when I'm browsing on my smartphone. It's in big blue letters and it stays on the screen as I scroll... Not sure why it's there because it's distracting. Other than that, I'm loving it!

I like the new look very clean. What I really like about it though is it's responsiveness. Well done

It doesn't work in my Nokia Lumia 520 with Windows Phone 8 GDR3.
The same ieframe error the other user reported above.
Other than that, the new layout is cool.

We are working on a Windows Phone fix now, we also just fixed an infinite loop error we had in the forums when browsing from a smartphone.

Another bug on the site - sorry to say

Two I have spotted
- the issue with the Nexus 7 in Portrait mode - not all data displayed with Chrome browser so you have to use Landscape mode to make the settings
- when you choose to look at all the comments - the option that says load all comments - only loads a few more - not all the comments.

Ok then. New user here, hello. I quite like your design. I feel like your old design (the 2009) never really stood out.

However, I'd like to mention that I took the liberty of running your site through modern.ie and I saw that in theory there are still a lot of things you could improve to provide an optimal experience, which I think is your goal. For example, I'm using IE11 on W8.1 now and the log-in box in the upper right corner appeared squashed a bit.

Here's hoping you guys make your site even better ! (apparently I can not post direct links, why not? )

Julio, it seems like quoted comments in TS are still now showing it's original poster Id. That would be a nice feature to have.

This new site sucks. Too many adds and long running script files that lock up the browser. I'm taking this one off my list of tech sites.

Techspot use to be my number one site for tech related stuff. There're now officially off the list!

Hello:
I just disinfected my computer with the expert help of Broni and I want to tell everyone how extremely happy I am with my computer and how magnificently it is working right now. Broni also gave me a lot of links to informative sites to learn how to safely surf the web and keep my computer virus free. There is a lot to read and learn but it's slowly sinking in already so THANK YOUR everyone at TechSpot - I'm so very happy that I found you because none of the other computer help sites where I posted my original question gave me any useful feedback and some of them did not respond at all! I will be sending in a "tip" by the end of the month.
Happily yours,
jim

A few forum layout changes went live during the weekend, hope you like them.
I wouldn't deem them final just yet, but what we went for is a streamlined way to use the forum with less noise around discussions. Missing some final touches (thumbs up icon, etc).

Any feedback and suggestions are appreciated.
