What controls video card san speed?

I have a VGA Silencer that used to be silent but lately the fan runs at almost full speed all the time but the core idles at 48*c. Is fan speed controlled by the driver or the card? This seems to have started since the last video driver update. Thanks

I think the driver does control the fan speed, at least on some cards. Before I had the drivers installed on my 7800gt, it ran with the fan at 100%(loud), but once the driver is installed it runs at only ~45%. You can use the newest version of rivatuner to change your graphics card's 2d and 3d fan speeds.

Thanks. Rivatuner worked great for the fan speed.
