What else does AVG Antivirus do?

i installed avg ages ago and since then i;'ve saw that its running stuff when its not open. To be more specific theres stuff in teh task manager thats avg related. They have never cause any problems i just wanna know what there doing. Is it giveing me a firewall, stopping people getting into my com? or is it jus doing sfa lolanyone know

p.s. the programs running that i believe are AVG related are avgamsvr.exe, avgemc.exe. , avgupsvc.exe (i believe this is the update facility), avgwb.dat
You can have 3 guesses as to why i think they are AVG related

Each task does different things, like scans email. I hate that about AVG, although I use it. No sense in having so many tasks for one program. Oh well. At least it is free and works.

And as long as it isn't hogging resources, I'd say you don't have anything to worry about.
