    i've got 512 ram pc2700 CAS 2.5 if i ran it at 266mhz and CAS 2 would it be faster?

    Yes, running it at 266mhz CAS 2 would be faster than 333mhz CAS 2.5 since your processor's FSB is only running a 266mhz anyways. As long as the RAM you have can handle CAS 2 it should be noticeably faster. If you ever get a 2400+ XP or higher processor go back to the 333mhz CAS 2.5 because those processors can use the 333mhz FSB.
