What the heck is this wire for?

Its the thing that makes the little beeping noises when you start up. It tells you if everything is ok or not. One beeb means that everything is all good.
 
It plugs into your motherboard, read the manual. It`s from the speaker that`s in you case and it`s responsible for the beep code you receive when your computer is booting.

It`s called the POST(power on self test). It`s a small programme contained in the bios chip that tests certain hadware etc and reports it as a series of beep codes. One beep usually means everything has passed and is ok.
