P35 will support the 45nm Yorkfeild and Wolfdale processors. They will be 5-10% faster per clock, run cooler and use less power. Core 2 works best with memory working 1:1 so DDR3 is not really any better than DDR2. Very little performance is gained by running memory faster then the FSB. That Gigabyte board does not support DDR3 anyways. The P35 does perform better than the i965. Anandtech did a article about P35 performance compared to other chipsets.

There is no doubt after testing P35 that it is clearly the best-performing chipset you can buy today.
I'd wait for for the X38.

Well im a budget upgrader anyway so I wont be getting the newest 45nm proc anyway. Right now im running athlon xp 3000, shes been a good ol' girl but is starting to feel the strain. =(

-So P35 does perform better (+)

-P35 makes use of DDR3 which in this case is irrelevant because the board/core2 does not support it (-)

-ICH9 has more potential features but does not appear to be utilized on this board (-)

-The 965p board here has better features. (+)

I guess the important question is how much faster... p35 is.

Well i suppose I will wait for x38... will bring prices down at least.

Thanks for the info.
