My father installed Norton 2005 on our computer about a year after we bought it.We just moved to Rome and now have an ADSL hookup. After signing online (because with ADSL you have to click sign on for some reason) there are about ten minutes of normal internet use. Then Norton goes crazy and these popups pop up saying: "Symantec [the maker or Norton] Email Proxy. Your email message to ---------@--------.com [note that the ------- are addresses that neither I, nor anybody else in my family have ever seen before] with the subject of ---------- was unable to be sent because the connection to your mail server was interrupted. Please open your email client and re-send the message from the Sent Messages folder." At first, one pops up. Then the next few, slowly. It seems to grow exponentially, because pretty soon there are about 100 of these popups layered on top of one another in the middle of the screen. I've run pandasoftware's scan, trendmicro's scan, about.buster, spy-bot, ad-aware, cwshredder, and norton's scan. They've deleted a bunch of junk, but this still happens. Hijack This log is below. If anyone sees something, please don't only point it out, but tell me how to get rid of it. If someone is able to fix this, they get 100 cool points and a cookie. Seems to me like you have a trojan horse virus which is Norton AntiVirus "savvy". It seems to be trying to get you to either (a) do mass mailings for it probably using your contacts in your e-mail software or (b) to send e-mails with your personal info to the spyware addresses you see in those messages. Get the free utilities Spybot and Ad-aware and run those - if you haven't done so already. And, get and run Norton AntiVirus or equivalent. Whatever you do don't send those messages!
I just had another look at your log. I vaguely seem to remember that Alicea (near the bottom of your log) is malware. Ad-aware should catch it. Obviously Spybot doesn't.
hi, im one of the people that has the same problem. (heres my post: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic16784.html) i ran ad-aware programs and norton antivirus but i still have the problem. any other ideas? thanks
