I'm doing some repair work on an old 486 system for a friend. Unfortunately the 5.25" 1.2mb floppy drive died and he still has alot of data on 5.25" floppys. Does anyone know where I could get a 5.25" floppy drive other than Ebay for a decent price? Any help would be apreciated.

You could probably get one for virtually free from a garage sale, flea market or some kind of an e-junkyard.. Or ask your friendly local computer repair shop.

Since there are no new devices made, you can try some refurbished goods shops. Any shopping search engine should give you some results.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately I couldn't find one locally. My local computer shop expeced to get some used ones in in a few weeks but I couldn't wait that long so I ended up just geting one from ebay. Now I just have to hope it doesn't get destroyed in the mail.

any computer salvage store should have this although 5.25s are getting increasingly harder to find.
