Why does computer start when I plug in the power cord ?

  1. I had a look at a friends computer which was working, but was very silent. When I checked it out no fans were working, I replaced psu & cpu fans & everything was working fine for a couple of weeks. Now when you plug in the power cord the computer starts but with no post or beep codes, I'm not sure how long the cpu was running without a fan and if was damaged by heat. At first I changed the psu but same troubles. I have no way to check the cpu which is a "pentium III 500 mhz slot 1" . Sound like the cpu ?
