    Hi -

Using a Dell win xp pro laptop - with an HP 460 usb/wifi printer. Printer works fine in cabled usb mode.

Laptop is connected to a wifi network with the printer, which I have named 'hpsetup'.

I currently have windows managing wireless connectisons; although I could switch to having 'intel/PROset wireless' manage.

Maybe I am missing something basic here - how do I print using wifi? The laptop does not show the printer; nor does it see it when I ask it to search for a printer.

Can one print to a wifi printer; without the printer being connected to at least one machine?

    Thank you in advance.

Some wifi printers will not work or be available to a wifi network with the USB cable connected. Have you shared the printer on your Dell laptop? Do all your networked PCs belong to the same workgroup?

yes, you can print to a WiFi attached printer.

    first, disconnect the USB

then, use the control panel on the printer to find your WiFi SSID.
    connect to it.

NOW go to your WiFi router config page and FIX the ip address that the
printer is assigned by associating the printer MAC address to a FIX IP address.
